Repsol Foundation and COIIM sign strategic alliance to promote the energy transition in Spain

The Repsol Foundation and the Official College of Industrial Engineers of Madrid (COIIM) have signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of leading the public conversation on the great energy challenges of the coming decades in Spain. This agreement seeks to promote the energy transition by joining efforts to address future challenges.

The signing took place on June 18th at the COIIM headquarters in Madrid. The ceremony was opened by Fabián Torres, dean of the COIIM; António Calçada, executive managing director of the Repsol Foundation; and Lucía Blanco, deputy assistant director of Foresight, Strategy, and Regulations in Energy Matters of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

During his speech, António Calçada highlighted that the energy, industrial, and digital transition must advance together, supported by knowledge, technology, and engineering based on scientific rigor. "In Spain and Portugal, we have a powerful industrial network and we must transform it in terms of energy efficiency," Calçada said.

Fabián Torres stressed the importance of the three fundamental pillars of the energy model: guarantee of supply, economic sustainability, and environmental quality. "We're working to design, optimize, and maintain facilities and plants that are based on these three pillars," Torres said.

Lucía Blanco described the energy transition as a global dilemma, but added that "we have the necessary tools to face this challenge. With today's technologies, we could achieve 80% of the needed reductions by 2030".

After the signing of the agreement, a roundtable was opened to explore the latest technologies for the energy transition. This session included the participation of Joan Groizard, executive managing director of the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), and four experts in the field: Renan Balpe, business development manager at Air Liquide; Jazmín Nieto, generation sales manager at Siemens Energy; David Leiva Fuente, enterprise account manager at Google Cloud; and Dolores Cárdenas, Product Design senior range manager at Repsol. The discussion was moderated by Julia Elizalde, director of Communications and Institutional Relations of CENER (National Renewable Energy Centre).

The newly signed agreement with COIIM reinforces the Repsol Foundation's role in promoting activities related to transforming the energy sector as well as our place in society, aligning ourselves with the goals of promoting a fair and inclusive energy transition. This collaboration with COIIM makes it possible to amplify these efforts, achieving a greater impact and contribution to improved energy efficiency and the overall evolution of energy in Spain.
