Roadmap for the transition to a competitive and fully decarbonized industry

Goal of the University Chair

Analyze the opportunities for decarbonization in the industrial sector, proposing solutions based on technological neutrality and also considering other ethical, social, and economic aspects that have an impact on industrial decarbonization.

Why decarbonization of industry?

The European Green Deal is a set of policies aimed at making Europe climate neutral by 2050. To achieve this ambition, the Fit for 55, a set of measures aimed at reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% compared to 1990 levels by 2030, is being implemented.

Decarbonizing industry is a key pillar for achieving this goal, and the case of some energy-intensive industrial sectors is particularly relevant, due to their high thermal demand at certain stages of their process.

2024 lines of work

  • Analyzing carbon footprint reduction opportunities and monitoring technologies applicable to the decarbonization of the cement industry.
  • Impact of critical raw materials and energy geopolitics on industrial decarbonization.
