13th Short Story Award
Fundación Repsol and the Xunta de Galicia’s Minister for Tourism and Culture is holding the la 13th Galician Language Short Story Award, through the cultural support programme.
The contest, which is established and well-known in the Galician literary world, includes a financial reward of 12 000 euros, and the publication of the piece by the publishing house Editorial Galaxia.
The submission period for the short stories is open until 31th July and the texts must be original and written in accordance with the norms established by the Royal Galician Academy. All submitted pieces must be unpublished, with a minimum length of 50 pages and a maximum of 120 pages. All of the information is available in the terms and conditions.
The jury will be made up by a representative from the Consellería de Cultura e Educación’s Secretary-General of Language Policy, another from Fundación Repsol, one from the Royal Galician Academy, another from the Galician Language Writers Association, and one from the Editorial Galaxia publishing house.
Agreement renewal
Last Friday, Román Rodríguez, the Galician Minister for Culture, Education, and Gonzalo Vázquez Villanueva, Director of Fundación Repsol's Institutional Area; signed a document to renew the partnership between the two entities, which has been active since 2006.
During the signing event held in Pazo de San Roque, they were accompanied by the Language Policy’s Secretary-General, Valentin García, and by the Director of Repsol's refinery in A Coruña, Javier Sancho.
The aim of this collaboration of both entities is to promote Galician language literature and to strengthen and promote Galician writers.
More than 300 works since its creation
The Repsol Short Story Prize was created by the Repsol Refinery in 2006 and organized jointly with the General Secretariat for Linguistic Policy in the Xunta de Galicia with the aim of promoting Galician language and culture. In 2010, Fundación Repsol assumed the position previously held by the Repsol Refinery in the competition, which from the outset had been supported by the Royal Galician Academy and the Association of Writers in the Galician Language, together with Editorial Galaxia, which publishes the winning stories.
The contest included the participation of over 300 pieces since its beginning, with the winner of the latest edition being 'Extraordinario', by the writer from Monforte de Lemos Antón Lopo.
